Welcome to the New Year
"Gokigenyou."
"Gokigenyou."
The clear morning greeting travels through the serene, blue sky.
Today, once again, the maidens that gather in the Virgin Mary's garden smile purely to one another as they pass under the tall gateway.
Wrapping their innocent bodies and souls is a deep-coloured school uniform.
Walking slowly as to not disturb the plaits in their skirts, so as to not toss their white sailor scarves into disarray... such is the standard of modesty here. Running because one is in danger of missing class, for instance, is too undignified a sight for students to wish upon themselves here.
Lillian Private Academy for Women.
Founded in Meiji 34, this academy was originally intended for the young women of nobility, and is now a Catholic academy of prestigious tradition. Placed in downtown Tokyo, where you can still see traces of Musashi Field's greenery, it is protected by God, a garden where maidens can receive tutelage from pre-school to university.
Time passes, and even now, in Heisei, three era-names past Meiji, it is a valuable academy, where nurtured ladies raised in greenhouses are shipped out in carefully packaged boxes after 18 years of schooling - an arrangement that continues to survive.
As the last note of Maria-sama's Soul rings through the chapel, echoing into the high rafters, the Yamayurikai stands tall at the front of the procession, ready to give out the gifts of rosaries to their newest arrivals.
The respective classes of each first-year are called, and each one receives their gift from the Yamayurikai members. The second and third year students are sitting by, simply watching, perhaps commenting quietly to each other whenever a particularly interesting first-year passes by, but they are quick to silence when the stern gazes of the nuns passes over them.
A new year has come to Lillian Academy, and the students are ready to start their adventures in life, love, and everything else.

Chie Satonaka | Second Year
But she holds herself well. Friends with everyone. Vice-Captain of the martial arts club. And being scouted as a soeur, or at least that's what the rumors are. But she's usually seen with one girl more than any other, making her chances seem all the slimmer.
In the end though, despite any rumors about her, Chie is happy. Late, by the fact that she blows past the statue of Mary herself, with a call of "I'm sorry Mary-sama!" as she tries to make it to the welcoming ceremony before any of the sisters realize she is missing.
And then later on after nearly falling asleep during the ceremony.. she'll be back to her usual unladylike energy as she stands around with a couple of her teammates, trying to garner the interest of any first years in her club. ]
Come join the Martial Arts Club! I promise you'll only like, get a little hurt sometimes!
[ ooc: Feel free to assume CR, romantic or otherwise! Or get in touch if you wanna plan something out~ ]

[And here comes along another second year that gets whispered about. Minako breaks out into a huge smile when her ears catch wind of Chie's marketing strategy, and she can't help herself from approaching and teasing.]
Only a little? How disappointing.
no subject
A smile still finds its way to Chie's face as she starts to rub the back of her head, plopping down to sit on the half-wall she was standin on to get attention. ]
W-Well, getting hurt sometimes is only fun when you do it to protect someone, right?
no subject
[Minako is certainly known, but only by virtue of being the new second year transfer student! So if anyone does know her, it's probably to comment on how strange getting a transfer student is. Popularity eludes her (for now...probably).]
I don't know about fun, but protecting someone is a pretty good reason to get hurt anytime in my book! [She offers a little nod of greeting.] I'm more interested in joining the volleyball club, to be honest, but I wouldn't mind dropping by once in a while, if that's okay?
no subject
[ Actually, it's sounding more and more like Chie's seen too many movies and not enough studying actual martial arts philosophy. Still, she's so excited, feeling like this other girl is on her wavelength. Thinking they should have definitely met before! ]
O-Oh. [ That's a sad sound of resignation at first. ] Sure! I mean, our doors always open if you want to watch or maybe try to pick up some new moves or something...
no subject
[Minako is definitely getting that movie-watcher vibe from Chie, but she thinks it's kind of endearing, and refreshing considering most of the other girls at this school are dainty flowers. Which, there's nothing wrong with, it just gets kind of tiresome to be as equally dainty after a while.]
I'd definitely like to pick up any moves you or any of the other senpai are willing to teach. It'd be good training for volleyball, right? I have to work my arm and leg muscles.
[She experimentally jabs her arm out in a decent looking right hook.]
no subject
Y-Yeah it would! We could work with you to increase your jump and stuff! You'll be like, "the kung fu volleyballer"! You'll be super famous or something!
[ That's probably not going to happen, is it? Chie does realize something though, as she looks at the other girls around them being a bit more subdued than she is, and quickly stiffens up a little, adjusting her uniform. ]
Ah, I'm sorry I'm-- I don't think I know your name?
no subject
Oh yeah. I would never miss a chance to spike the ball, and I'd be the team's ace. [Probably not, but it's nice to dream. She glances at the other girls as well, then turns back to Chie.]
I'm Minako Arisato. And don't be sorry! I really like your enthusiasm. If I could match it during try-outs, I'd definitely get onto the volleyball team.

You have to work on your sales pitch a little. [Just a friendly word from a passing Rose. The crowd seems to part in front of her, like she's either something that's untouchable or... something that shouldn't be touched.
Of course, as soon as she says that, a little murmur goes through the crowd that's following her around.] How about... pitching it to the vain girls that they can use it to lose weight? [Sei, that's literally not any better.]
no subject
Though Chie doesn't really think like that, she's just... a little overwhelmed that the Rosa Gigantea suddenly has come over to talk to her. Well, she had been loudly trying to get people's attention, she just didn't expect someone on the Yamayurikai to have any interest in her club or her. ]
H-Huh? [ Chie is quick to stiffen up just a little, looking left then right, as if trying to find help. ]
I guess it does keep you in shape, the guy who runs Aiya keeps telling me there's no way I should be in shape with how much steak I eat from there...
no subject
[Also too bad, Chie, it's just you, Rosa Gigantea, and a quickly gathering crowd of onlookers. Just like that, they're almost taking her presence as an endorsement, even if, really, she's just... sort of impressed how sad this is.]
Ah, see? But you have to spin it like a sales pitch. "Eat all you want from Aiya, if you join our club, you won't see a fraction of a kilogram put on for it!" [She is either serious or trolling. This is the hard part to figure out.]
no subject
Chie isn't afraid of the older girl per se, only the way it makes her feel to be at the center of attention of everyone around here. Was the Yamayurikai really that amazing that someone simply talking to another girl was enough to garner everyone's interest? Why did it feel like she was being judged? Chie can't help but tug a little down on her skirt to try to hide the black spandex beneath. ]
I mean, weight loss is pretty helpful too, but that's not really the point of martial arts. It's about self-control, and helping others! Learning more about how to have discipline and fighting bad guys.
[ Wait that last part.... ]
no subject
[Except...] ... Except 'fighting bad guys'? [What bad guys. Have you literally ever seen a 'bad guy' anywhere near here? The cops are probably on a .5 second timer to get down here.]
no subject
What? I mean, that's totally a part of it! Like in movies, you always see the good guy send a flying dragon kick at the bad guys to stop him from blowing up the dam or something, you know?!
no subject
no subject
[Uh oh. It was one of the first-year school troublemakers, if the rumors were to be believed. Though Kaede was behaving, or at least trying to.
Still, she's definitely looking at Chie with more attention than she paid to service or most tutors.]
no subject
Martial arts aren't about hurting people. It's a discipline, where you learn to harness your own body and control it. We don't want people to join who just want to learn how to beat people up!
no subject
[Ah, there's that arrogance. The way Kaede crossed her arms, set her shoulders and jaw.
But she was trying to be better. Trying to show that she wasn't just some violent creature straining to be let off the chain, that that wasn't all she was good for.
It was just...difficult, sometimes, not to fall into old habits.]
no subject
[ Chie touches her hand to her forehead for a moment, trying to ponder something important in her head. ]
Are you saying you already know how to beat people up, or just how to control your own body? Those are two important differences!
[ Because bullies aren't allowed! ]
no subject
...but that wasn't a very polite thing to say.
So...saying something else it was.]
...I can't control myself. Happy?
no subject
Instead she stiffens just a little, hearing that honest admission from someone usually so frightening. ]
W-Well, then you should definitely join! Martial arts is all about control, it's like the first thing you learn, no matter what style.
[ That reminds her: ] I'm Chie. Satonaka Chie!
no subject
She owed it to them to at least try to be less of an asshole.]
Kaede.
[That was all; no family name seemed to be forthcoming.]
no subject
Kaede....san? [ She tries out the honorific, trying to be polite, but wondering if that's her first or last name. Not that it matters as Chie is already moving on. ]
So we have practices three times a week, but you can always hang out in the club room too if you want anytime! I'm usually running on our off days too if you need a partner! [ As if Kaede looked like she ever wanted a partner in anything? ]
