Welcome to the New Year

"Gokigenyou."

"Gokigenyou."

The clear morning greeting travels through the serene, blue sky.

Today, once again, the maidens that gather in the Virgin Mary's garden smile purely to one another as they pass under the tall gateway.
Wrapping their innocent bodies and souls is a deep-coloured school uniform.

Walking slowly as to not disturb the plaits in their skirts, so as to not toss their white sailor scarves into disarray... such is the standard of modesty here. Running because one is in danger of missing class, for instance, is too undignified a sight for students to wish upon themselves here.

Lillian Private Academy for Women.

Founded in Meiji 34, this academy was originally intended for the young women of nobility, and is now a Catholic academy of prestigious tradition. Placed in downtown Tokyo, where you can still see traces of Musashi Field's greenery, it is protected by God, a garden where maidens can receive tutelage from pre-school to university.

Time passes, and even now, in Heisei, three era-names past Meiji, it is a valuable academy, where nurtured ladies raised in greenhouses are shipped out in carefully packaged boxes after 18 years of schooling - an arrangement that continues to survive.
As the last note of Maria-sama's Soul rings through the chapel, echoing into the high rafters, the Yamayurikai stands tall at the front of the procession, ready to give out the gifts of rosaries to their newest arrivals.

The respective classes of each first-year are called, and each one receives their gift from the Yamayurikai members. The second and third year students are sitting by, simply watching, perhaps commenting quietly to each other whenever a particularly interesting first-year passes by, but they are quick to silence when the stern gazes of the nuns passes over them.

A new year has come to Lillian Academy, and the students are ready to start their adventures in life, love, and everything else.

Oh you don't have to be some kinda sacrifice for me, I don't need it. [Har har.]

I hate being at the center of attention like that, but it's kinda the nature of the beast when you're part of the Yamayurikai. Scrutinized for every little thing... I guess if Senp-... uh. Onee-sama didn't think I could handle it, she wouldn't have given me her rosary, though.

[Umm...] ... Y-yeah, I guess. I mean technically practice just finished, but I guess I don't need the whole ensemble just to pluck out arrows at a target.

... The glove might be kinda sweaty, though.
ibara_no_mori: (V for Victory!)

[personal profile] ibara_no_mori 2016-10-22 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
... I guess that's great news. [There's a disbelieving bark of a laugh in her first syllable, but she regains composure easily.

... She doesn't know what happened to this school since last year, but boy this is turning into something great.
] I'll make sure the drama club tracks you down for rehearsal then.

[personal profile] resurrection_butterfly 2016-10-22 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! My apologies. I was thinking out loud. How embarrassing.

[She didn't seem embarrassed by it at all though.]

I'm not doing very well so far am I?
resurrection_butterfly: (Covered fan)

[personal profile] resurrection_butterfly 2016-10-22 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She rouses from her slumber, a little groggy and not quite sure what was going on.]

Oh? Did I miss tea? I'm sure the Door Mouse won't mind.

[Had she been dreaming about Alice in Wonderland?]
ibara_no_mori: (... Should we poke it with a stick?)

[personal profile] ibara_no_mori 2016-10-22 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
You could be, if you tried. You probably should be, honestly. [Her hands are still up in the surrendering pose, but it shifts to a shrug smoothly.] No use squandering the time you have.

[Help is unexpected... but help is welcome!]

It's... um, it should just be black. Just says "Notes" on the front. [Because she is A+ at organizing her stuff.]

... It should be right about here... [She makes a motion to a part of the room where she usually sits.] But... it must've been moved...

[She

She has no shame about that at all.

... Damn.
]

... Um. I-I wouldn't say that, just really surprising. I'm usually the one to stick my foot in my mouth cuz I don't think when I speak. [... Like right now.]

[personal profile] penthesileia 2016-10-22 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose so.

I was fairly strict with you, though, wasn't I? Most of the school sees me as the authority type. [Who they are terrified with.]

[personal profile] penthesileia 2016-10-22 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd certainly hope so! You've got really remarkable talent, it'd be a shame to see it go to waste.

[She pauses before answering.] I'm not certain. I may not actually pursue higher education, if I'm needed for Kirijo Group business.

[She's not happy about that.]

Of course, there's nothing at all in our charter or culture that mandates being part of the soeur tradition to be friends with people.

Though, if I may ask, why do you believe that to be the case? We have all types here.
truedetective: (08)

[personal profile] truedetective 2016-10-23 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

[It's a question sincerely asked.] What use will spending time socializing have for my future? It seems like a waste of my time that could be better spend elsewhere.
ofwindandarrows: (09)

[personal profile] ofwindandarrows 2016-10-23 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well yeah, but it's not like that's all you are. [Actually, she's pretty squishy and caring in her own...... Mitsuru-y way.

That Yukari can't really... describe.
]

... I mean, is that all you think you are?
ibara_no_mori: (Curious)

[personal profile] ibara_no_mori 2016-10-23 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I wonder why, indeed. [Sei crosses her arms, looking puzzled for a moment, head tilted. She is very good at this, because she honestly looks like she confused herself. To be most precise, there's a little part of her that was once 16 and thought something similar. For a very, very different reason. So it's easy to just channel that for her act.] I can't think of a single instance where social skills and connections might be important, you're right.

Kyoto? Never been.

[ not replied with disinterest; she wishes she could travel from where she lives—that being here, or her true home— to a city such that. alas, she's only studied it in school. haruki laces her hands behind her head, stepping out of the way of another. ]

I'm guessing it's a lot different than here, huh? Granted, this place is something special in its own right...
besieger: (15)

[personal profile] besieger 2016-10-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Door mouse? ... Oi.

[ she has no idea what that's meant to mean. this place was extraordinary in its own comparative right, but she's fairly certain door mouse are non-existennt.

she chuckles.
]

He probably won't mind much. [ her smile turns wry; she straightens and tucks her hands into her pockets, deliberating another nudge— with the toe of her foot, this time. ] If we're quick about it, anyway.

[personal profile] penthesileia 2016-10-26 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, no, not all that I am, certainly not. [How to explain it?] It's just that I've cultivated this particular image over the past few years and I do try to live up to it.

[Kirijo life.]

You like people to be afraid of you? [Something about her tone is almost teasing.] Cuz I'm pretty sure you're not that scary, unless you try to be. [Then she's terrifying, but that's for a different time.]
ufonium: (013)

[personal profile] ufonium 2016-11-01 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I guess in its own way, Kyoto's a big city in Japan, too, but... I guess people are a little different. [Also she's having to get used to the change in accent. Aside from all the other things. The second part ekes a soft chuckle out of her, though. More a breath than anything.]

But I can agree it's special in its own right. I've really never seen a school system like this before. They keep talking about giving rosaries like it's some kind of marriage proposal.

[personal profile] penthesileia 2016-11-04 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Not afraid, per se... it's difficult to explain.

[Maybe a little afraid. She just doesn't want people to take her lightly, that's all!]

--at any rate, that seems beside the point!
resurrection_butterfly: (Sake with a friend)

[personal profile] resurrection_butterfly 2016-11-04 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... well, sometimes it can't be helped. We are who we are. There's nothing wrong with that though. It's simpler that way.
resurrection_butterfly: (Falling in your space)

[They were the most adorable tiny rodents.]

Oh then I suppose I should try and hurry then. I don't want to cause any sort of upset.

[And with the nudging she gets to her feet, brushing out her skirt to get it back into shape. Though she said she would hurry, she wasn't particularly hurrying. But, perhaps getting up at all right now was in a way a type of hurry.]
ufonium: (003)

[personal profile] ufonium 2016-11-06 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
... I can't really disagree. [She can't, either. It's easier to just kind of be herself and let herself go along with the flow. Well, except the part where she acts distant to hide that she's really blunt and cynical, but whatever. It's easier to fit in with a small group of people.]

It's just I don't see it around often. Not a great way to make friends. [Yeah, like that.]
ofwindandarrows: (53)

[personal profile] ofwindandarrows 2016-11-06 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah yeah, sure sure.] You're never gonna make any friends that way, c'mon S-... Onee-sama. [haha yeah she's terrible at not calling Mitsuru 'senpai'.]

Not everything is politics in high school.
besieger: (15)

[personal profile] besieger 2016-11-06 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ at the second part, haruki mirrors kumiko's chuckle. though hers isn't so much a breath, as it is as an unabashed laugh. the comparison had caught her off guard, and she has to take a moment to fully appraise its beauty. ]

... Honestly, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't like that. [ that gives her pause. it might be pretty strange to propose to someone, only to be called 'onee-sama' afterward. ] Well, not quite, but. Underclassman are usually considered pretty lucky to receive one; it definitely comes with a few perks...
